The Sun Times reports that Xanadu is closing on March 29 - see below for the notice. Bummer...
The muse of the box office clearly refused to cooperate.
“Xanadu,” the Chicago edition of the campy little 90-minute musical by Douglas Carter Beane, Jeff Lynne and John Farrar, will close March 29 at the Drury Lane Theater Water Tower Place.
The show, which enjoyed a long run Off Broadway, is based on the 1980 film about a dim-witted Venice Beach multimedia artist and the beautiful Australian-accented ancient Greek muse who goads him on to success. It began previews here Jan. 16, opened Jan. 28, and was expected to draw both local and downtown tourist crowds until summer.
All is not lost, however. The entire production, including actors and sets, will travel to Japan in May for a month-long engagement in Tokyo, before beginning a national tour of the United States in Fall 2009. The show’s producers are Robert Ahrens, Dan Vickery, Mickey Liddell, b. swibel, Tara Smith and Latitude Link
